I'm inspired by my experiences, my surroundings and asking "how would someone feel is ____ happened to them?" Most importantly, I ask God what he wants people to read that will touch their lives and remind them of his love for them.

I usually have too many projects, not enough so that part isn't an issue. My first action when I get stuck on some part of a book is to pray something like this, "God, this is your book, what do you want me to say?" If I wait and listen, I sense where I should go from there. I also do research or pull out my notebook of my characters' pictures and talk to them. I ask them a lot of questions or ask questions about them. No, they don't talk back audibly. :)

Having an impact on people's lives. It brings me to tears when someone is touched, encouraged, challenged or changed by reading something I've written. There is nothing better.
I also like playing with words. It's a challenge to learn how to better situate words to show rather than tell.

Don't quit. Write, write and write more. Learn your craft. Make connections in the industry and trust your instincts about what you feel led to write.

I have a few irons in the fire as we say. I've been working on a Biblical fiction called Rachel's Son that is the story of a mother whose son is killed when Herod sends soldiers to Bethlehem in search of Jesus. Her faith is destroyed and bitterness takes over when a series of events continues to ruin her. In the end, encountering Jesus challenges her to forgive the Forgiver.
I'm also working on various novels. Dangerous Ground uncovers a sex trafficking ring. A Deadly Silence examines a family destroyed by pornography. Silk Stalkings has an English professor being stalked, and When the Wind Blows throws six unlikely characters together when a hurricane strikes their Florida high rise.

Reading the story of babies killed in Bethlehem gripped me one day. I realized that we read Bible stories like they are fiction, but they're not. These are real people who lived with actual situations just like we do each day. I wondered what it would have been like if I had been one of those mothers whose child was slain in such a brutal, unexpected way. I felt as if I had to tell the story of one such woman who suffered trauma, heartbreak and ensuing bitterness. And Jesus was the reason! Wow! How would I deal with that? That's Rachel's story.
