I've always had a knack for things puncturing my tires. Nails are an obvious hazard, but I've also had screws, scrap metal, and a key (that went in headfirst!) flatten a tire. Is there a grand conspiracy? Is someone hammering objects into my tires while I sleep?
Nah, it's probably aliens.

Write. Don't overanalyze things. If you want to write, do it. Don't be afraid to start small. Come up with an idea that you want to grow and run with it. Don't hesitate to reach out to those closest to you for feedback, be it assistance in proofreading or getting their opinion to make sure the story flows and isn't confusing. Criticism isn't bad, don't shrink away from it. Determine if it's constructive and, if it is, embrace it, that's how we get better. Never sell yourself short. If you believe in what you're writing and you believe it to be good, go with it. You'll find others who will embrace it as well. In closing, and to add yet another cliché, have fun. You're flexing a talent, like playing piano or hockey. Enjoy it!

I had an incredibly vivid dream, a dream that really creeped me out. More than that, it made me incredibly curious about the world that I inhabited in the dream. There were pieces there to follow, and some things have evolved in the writing process, but the basic idea and theme remain intact. Do you ever see a building and think to yourself, "Gee, I wonder just what the hell they do there"? Curiosity can be be a great motivator and a huge detriment to our continued safety. Where is the line? How close can we get to it before the pendulum swings, knocking us from the safe confines of inquisitiveness, into the darkness? Personally, I would rather find out by writing.

Honestly, I don't have one well that I draw from. For example, my current project stemmed from a very vivid dream that I had. I woke up and knew that I had to start writing. Also, my mind likes to create an absurd number of hypothetical situations, some of which intrigue me enough to use them in my writing. Some of my best ideas come like a bolt out of the blue, no rhyme or reason.

My first full-length novel, which has been quite a change-up after focusing solely on short stories. It focuses on a man who works for a government contractor at a covert facility and discovers that his work is destined for nefarious purposes. Fearing for his life, the man sends copies of damning paperwork to a handful of investigative journalists and goes on the run. There's some humor, some darkness and hopefully an enthralling story.

My favorite thing about being a writer is having an idea and bringing it to life, fleshing out characters and their world. Of course, it's always nice to share your creation with others and hopefully achieve your goal with readers, be it to entertain, enlighten or educate. It's also rewarding to grow your talents as a writer, stretch out into different genres or mediums and see what you are able to achieve.

Truth be told, nothing too sophisticated. If it occurs while I am working on a project in-progress, I try to think of tangents that can be added to give the story depth. Even if what I come up with ultimately doesn't get included in the final work, it often gets my mind churning out thoughts and ideas, which is rarely bad. Failing that, I step away and focus on something else and try to clear my mind. It could be playing or listening to music, going out to take pictures or putting together a model, anything not directly related to what I am writing. Oddly enough, sometimes it all ends up tying together.
