There's one sure-fired way: Take a shower.

The day someone tells you your story made them "feel". I don't care what the feeling is - but to think my words made someone feel - that's priceless. I wrote a short story for a holiday blog hop about two homeless boys and I received a note from someone thanking me because she had been a homeless teen. As we corresponded back and forth and I learned more of her story, I was humbled that someone like me, who has never experienced one night of homelessness could have written something that spoke to someone who had lived it.

I know you see this all the time, but, "just write." It's true. Yeah, there's a lot to learn and it gets overwhelming, but just put all that aside and write. The rest will come as you need it to come.

I'm currently working on the sequel to Strangers In The Night and edits for my novella, Dragons, which will be released in Spring 2015. I'm also working on final self-edit/re-write of my first novel which is really my baby. I can't wait for everyone to meet Mason and Luke. The sequel to their story is also in the works. And I've started working on the story of Tommy and Shane, the two homeless boys I wrote a piece for on a Holiday Blog Hop. So many people asked me for the rest of their story. You can read that piece here: http://www.jayceeedward.com/2014/12/h...

That's a funny question because I guess I never really "got the idea" for Strangers In The Night until it was already in progress! My co-writer, Helena Stone and I were experimenting with Skype and because we are both introverts and feeling totally awkward with each other, we decided to open Google docs to see how it worked. The moment I saw her cursor flashing next to mine - gah! - total Eureka moment. Just for fun, I typed one sentence. She typed the next. I typed the third. A few hours later we were giddy with how much fun we were having! By the end of that first Skype session, we had the beginnings of Strangers In The Night. The rest, as they say, is history. ;o)
