I would go to Narnia in "The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe." Once there I would seek out the White Witch and break her wand. Then I would slap her back and forth until she had had enough and then run her through with her own sword. Next I would talk with Aslan until he had to leave. After that I would dance with the fauns, talk with the trees, ride a centaur and so many other things. It would be a wondrous journey.

How could Rival write books with a permanent case of vertigo?

I would have to say Bella and Edward from the Twilight books. I liked their commitment to each other and the fact that he wasn't always getting yelled at like in some relationships.

It really dovetailed out of the end of the previous book. There were loose ends I purposely left in that story. This book ties those ends but creates a whole series of new problems with even more difficult solutions pending.

I often come up with my ideas in a backward way. Let's say I see or envision a move in a fight scene that I find really exciting. Then I figure how that move would be integrated into a fight. Next I figure how many people will be in the fight and who they are. Then I need a reason for the fight to happen. Lastly I come up with the events leading to and coming after the fight. That whole event is then placed somewhere on the timeline I make of the story where it best fits.

I am currently putting the finishing touches on Book 3 of "The Sapphire Chronicles" called "Mandrean Revenge." Book 4 is at the front of my brain waiting to be written but first I must put this book to bed.

Learn that rejection is not personal. You will be rejected ...a lot! Imagine a giant cafeteria line with publishers or agents going by looking at millions of literary works. Yours is just one of the options. If someone passes by your work and doesn't take it, that's all right. There is a long line and odds are someone is going to want what you have to offer. You just need that one person.

Bring a writer is like being behind the wheel of an automobile. You can go anywhere you want and everyone else is along for the ride. As a writer you get to create whatever you want. It can be a different person, a different job, a different place or a different time. There's always a road to take. You can also go off road and do something new. Remember, you're driving and you are only limited by your imagination.

Writer's Block was never a problem for me until I started having deadlines. Then I could no longer sit back and wait for the inspiration to come. If it's an ongoing project I read up to where I left off and then my mind usually continues the story from there. It's harder when it's a totally new project. In those cases I go somewhere completely quiet where there are no distractions and let my mind wander around the subject. Often times my best ideas come right before falling asleep when all the lights are out and I can just concentrate on the issue.
