I think about the way a romantic relationship developed between my husband and me after heartbreaks and failed prior relationships. Someday I'll write a novel about our courtship and marriage. It's stranger than fiction and would make a good plot for a story.

My favorite fictional couple is one I imagined and wrote a novel about—Maidie Cameron Munro and Andrew Dubh Munro in A Highland Pearl. Maidie is a strong, yet gentle and kind heroine. She is beautiful inside and out and so loves Andrew, she is willing to sacrifice her good life in Clan Munro for one of drudgery with her father to save Andrew. Andrew, as chief of Clan Munro, is a strong character, also. He loves Maidie and readily puts his own life at risk to get her back.

The inspiration for A Highland Pearl came from genealogical research. I found my ancestor emigrated from Scotland to North Carolina early in the 19th century. I visited Scotland, trying to locate his home and loved the country.
