As a reader, I was a big fan of Rachel and Tobias from The Animorphs, because their very different personalities meant they could support each other in ways they couldn't help themselves.
I am, of course, biased in favor of my own couples from my own novel series. They're my favourites for much the same reason.

My most long-term writing project is my young adult fantasy series "Drescopata." It is a twelve-book saga about magical planets created by mad teen gods and goddesses. Due to it being such a shaped series (as oppose to one book with optional sequels), I don't expect it to make its way into the world until I've got some kind of track record through my stand-alone novels (one adult science fiction complete so far). While Drescopata slow-cooks on my back burner, I am simultaneously planning more stand-alone novels for the future. Most of my ideas are still vague, but notes for my first middle-grade novel (tentatively titled "Shimine") are shaping up nicely. I am privileged to have one official project demand so far. Reality Skimming Press is publishing my Family Magic chapter books for ages 6-9. For the time being, my plans include two new stories for this series every year.

I go for walks, or I try to jump to a different part in my work-in-progress that feels easier. I don't believe writer's block can really bring all writing to a screeching halt. Usually, you're stuck because you're not in the mood for the part you're struggling to finish. Try a different part and come back to the block later.

The best part for me is escaping into a world of my own whenever the real one is not interesting enough, or fun enough, or fair enough. If my daydreams lead to great story idea, I delve deeper into negative aspects and balance my escape-world out. Being able to share a resulting novel with others is the ultimate pleasure. I love reading aloud to small support groups.

Love what you write; write it and love it no matter what the world throws at you. Never measure writing success by financial gain. Writers are major contributers to literacy, education, culture, entertainment and personal growth. If you are ready to be a writer, remember that touching minds with your words is a super power, and that power is your legacy no matter what degree of fame your work achieves.

I am currently working from scratch on my brand new middle-grade novel, I am finishing the second half of book #3 in my young adult fantasy series (http://jenniferlott.com/drescopata/), and I am planning out future titles for Family Magic (http://familymagicseries.com/)

I get inspired mostly by events in life or fiction that make me daydream. "What if" thoughts can lead me to anything if I think them long enough. For some of my children's stories, I am inspired by a passing interaction with children - a comment or a game of little significance to the children themselves.

My most recent book project was inspired by a short story I wrote about six years ago. I got the idea for the short story when I only lasted two weeks as a Blockbuster employee, and my injured pride over being let go struggled against relief since I never liked the job. The alien world I invented was initially my stand against human expectations in the workforce, but the themes have changed drastically since I reworked my aliens into a plot for a middle-grade novel.
