Joy Johnston Writing about traumatic personal experiences has been like therapy for me. To be able to address personal demons and hopefully arrive at a better understanding of myself via the written word is a powerful tool.
Joy Johnston I'm working on sharing The Reluctant Caregiver with a wider audience of caregivers. I also continue to promote my award-winning concept, Respite Care Share, which encourages caregivers to take a break.
Joy Johnston It can be emotionally draining to write about personal experiences. Writing the Reluctant Caregiver forced me to reassess my relationship with my parents, my triumphs and failures as a daughter. It also forced me relive their diseases and their deaths. What inspired me to push forward was the hope that I may help another struggling caregiver understand that she/he is not alone.
Joy Johnston My ups and downs while being a caregiver for my parents inspired The Reluctant Caregiver. I learned so much from the experience, because I was basically starting from a blank slate.
