Rick Royster I don't get writers block- I plan and organize. I know my destination before I start. In the planning stages I work out what the theme and goals are, so the characters always have something to do. Its just a matter of me creating scenarios that keeps the characters from getting what they want. If they want the apple in the tree, i'll put thorns, rain and snow, and another person who will do anything for that apple, and if they get close to it, my character better pray I don't make the apple poisonous or half rotten.
Rick Royster I write because I feel I have something to say...no matter how small or trivial. A century from now, my words will still live. We know the intimate thoughts of John the baptist and Marcus Aurelius simply because they were able to write it down for us to view over 2000 years later. That is why the pen is mightier than the sword.
Rick Royster Learn the craft. Don't just write. Study your favorite movies and books...re-read them over and over again. Try and write what you want to see or read. And of course, write something that you know has meaning to you.
Rick Royster Warriors at the gates series.
Rick Royster I always want to write and create- to play in something thatI've created but to make that thing real, alive, see it breathe. But character drives me...who is this person? Why do they behave the way that they behave?
Rick Royster Started in grade school many years ago- me and a best friend had an early inclination to create. So I combined a couple of our passions and put it to use. We created a series and a ton of characters. I picked it up again at a later date, maybe 8 years later... he went off to write several books of his own and I was still captivated by a childhood idea...
