Hi Chris, That's a helluva comparison to Christopher Moore. Thank you! It was one of those things where Dean's voice came loud and clear in my head, so I sat down and let the voice write itself. It started as a short story and I guess I just got quiet enough and alone enough to get in touch with that part of myself. Sensory deprivation is helpful when I write. I guess before the voice came, I wanted to get across the idea that no matter how weak your body is, a strong mind is the ultimate weapon. I also really like seeing bad people get punished, so I devised a man who had reason enough to get away with it.
Regarding movie and TV, if you know any producers, there is a lean, mean, and much-polished film script available for option/sale. Just message me. I also don't have an agent, so all the marketing for the film stuff is on me at present.
Thanks for asking. Chris!

(view spoiler)[Hi Max! This is an astute catch and one I'm happy to answer. LASD stands for Los Angeles Sheriff's Department, the largest department of it's kind in the country serving unincorporated areas in L.A. County as well as contracting services to some cities. For instance, Malibu's law enforcement is provided by the LASD.
When I was first researching the Hard Bite series, I decided that my serial killer character Dean Drayhart would be mobile and unlikely to confine himself to crimes within LAPD (L.A. Police Department) jurisdictions. But if he killed outside those jurisdictions how would my homicide detective Doug Coltson get linked up on all the cases so he could follow Dean from crime to crime, getting ever closer?
The answer was to have Doug serve the LASD. When the first victim is discovered in Malibu, Doug is at the crime scene. When Dean's murders then move into the authority of the LAPD, Doug is already the "go to" guy for Dean's crimes and would naturally be contacted and brought in on the cases. (hide spoiler)]

I think the onus is on the writer (and editor) to be sensitive about what readers need drawn out a little more. It could have used a line or two of explanation and it's something that pulled you out of the story and caused you to question. That's a bad thing and interferes with enjoyment of the story. If you stumbled over it, it's safe to say other people will stumble over it. So now I know.

Hey! Thanks for figgering out how to pose the question on this here newfangled software... :-) Will there be a book signing? Short answer is yes. Long answer is that the e-book will come out a little ahead of the paperback so the signing may come later, say November-ish. Thanks for asking Jerry, you'll be the first to know, too.

BITE HARDER will be out the first week of September 2014 from Blasted Heath publishers. Uncanny Books and founder Andrew Byers are about to make an exciting announcement about a deal I just signed with them. And a novelette called CRASHING THROUGH MIRRORS about a waaaay down-on-his-luck former superstar bass player is getting the noir-thumbs-up from beta readers. JT Lindroos just finished the cover. So lots is coming out soon.

Hi Jerry! Wait till I see if there's a way I can officially enter your question as a Q and not just a comment. Hmmm
