A bit off-putting to have no synopsis on Goodreads for the "storm coming" book. Looked in all the usual places and ....nothing. (?)

Have been offered a contract by Histria! I imagine they assign an individual editor to each title? As A Storm Coming is set in 1710 how much emphasis have you put on recreating the language of the time? My own novel is set in the 1870s, but would you agree there's a fine balance between recreating 'authentic' period dialect and taking into account the sensibilities of the 21st century reader?
Chuck Locklear The biggest challenge was not using words and phrases that were too modern or "American." Luckily, I have a good beta reader group, and one of the women consistently flags words and phrases for me. I've gotten to the point where I check the etymology of words often, using Dictionary.com. For my novel, I used some Tuscarora words, but not so many as to be distracting for the reader. I'd err on the side of reader understanding. For my next novel, I went back to 1607. That made the challenge even tougher. I had to stick with words familiar to Tutor England. I only had one experience with an editor at Histria. I got less interaction than I had hoped for. I'm glad for a strong beta reader group.

Hi Chuck - looking forward to A Storm Coming later this year. If you don't mind me asking, what has been your experience with Histria Books? Their editorial board have been considering my M/S for the past five months and I'm wondering if they'll stick to their estimated 4-6 month period of review?
Chuck Locklear Yes, they will stick to their estimated timeframe. For me, it was five months. I've been pleasantly surprised; they publish many more books each year than I originally thought. Now, they have partnered with Simon & Schuster for all their distribution, marketing, and sales. That has been a strong upgrade.
