Ike Hamill I've always written horror. I enjoy stories about normal people having to tap unknown resources in order to face their fear. I started writing when I was in high school, but then didn't do much writing until I was in my 30s. Since then, I've written nearly every day.
Ike Hamill I like almost everything about being an author. I love telling stories and finding people who want to hear them. It's easy for me to get wrapped up in statistics. When a book is doing well, I'll check the sales figures several times a day. For example, instead of enjoying the fact that The Claiming is #72 in Horror books at the moment, I'll fret about it when it drops to #73. So, I suppose it's the uncertainty that is most difficult.
Ike Hamill I've gone through three copies of Stephen King's 'Salem's Lot. I can't say how many times I've read it. I think it's beautiful, horrifying, and brilliant. When I first read it, I couldn't stand to look out the window at night. I was afraid I would see eyes looking back at me.
Ike Hamill I write until I've got my words for the day. When I can't think of what to write, it's because the story isn't interesting. That gives me a chance to find something interesting to say. I can't say I've ever really been blocked.
Ike Hamill The best thing about writing is that you get to learn about everything.
Ike Hamill Write every day. Take chances (there's always a 2nd draft). Write for fun. Read a ton.
Ike Hamill I'm releasing my next book, "Inhabited," at the end of July, 2015. It's my favorite book so far this year. I'm trying to construct a story with very little breathing room. It's fun.
Ike Hamill I write every day, no matter what else is happening. I'm not done until I get my quota of words. My inspiration is wanting to entertain myself for those hours.
Ike Hamill For "The Claiming," I wanted to write a story about a small family who are geographically and culturally isolated (or at least feel that way). After I dropped them in that setting, things began to happen.
