Hi, Susan. I'm not a 'Southern' writer (although many of my stories take place in the south) but I would love to be a guest on Suite T. Please email me at ruth.kyser@gmail.com with the specifics. Thank you for reaching out!

So many books. So little time to read them all! I'm actually reading two books right now: "A Scarlet Thread" by Deborah Raney, and "The Seakeeper's Daughters" by Lisa Wingate. Other than those two, I'm not sure what will be next on my list from my To-Be-Read Pile.
Of course, in the midst of all the reading, I'll be finishing final edits on my next release, and writing another book or two to be published later in the year. Much to do! Thanks for the question, and have a great day!

What a great question--although it's a tough one. One mystery in my life is whatever happened to some of my childhood friends. After moving so many times, you tend to lose track of those dear friends you were so close to as a young child. I did go looking for several of them, only to discover they'd passed away. So sad. But I've often wondered if I found one or two, would they have anything in common with me anymore, or would we have grown apart enough we could never be friends again?
Food for thought. :) Thank you for the question! You never know, someday I may use my thoughts for a book! God bless!

READ! Read books like you want to write; read books that tell you about the craft of writing; just READ. While you're reading, study the way the book is structured. How does the author move the story line along, and do the characters sound real? And then write. Write the kind of story you enjoy reading. If you don't love your story, no one else will either. And never give up. If it's something you enjoy -- even if no one else ever reads it -- don't give up.

My ideas come from a variety of places. I've had whole story lines come to me in dreams, or from reading a news article. Sometimes a scripture will jump off the page at me, and I'll get an idea from that.

The idea for my most recent book, "The Healing Hills", came during a visit to the Cades Cove area of Tennessee. I hadn't been back there for forty years, but as soon as we arrived, my mind started working on a new story line. I truly love that area and would encourage anyone who hasn't had the opportunity to see these lovely mountains, to be sure to go!
