Books by Michael Connelly and Timothy Hallinan are on my list, as well as books by Chris Goff, Karin Slaughter and Blake Crouch.

The one I'm writing now comes primarily from a friend of mine who is a psychologist. She suggested I develop a character who is fully invested in his reputation who makes a decision that turns out badly. After that, he makes another bad decision and events snowball. Kind of like Bonfire of the Vanities.

Oh, gosh. Another one word answer. Readers.
Okay, I also get inspired to write stories from the news or a dream or a random thought. But really? It's my readers asking for more. It's kind of a sweet pressure.

My goal is to finish the first draft of FLAME GAME this week. I'm not sure it will happen. My excuse is that my birthday was Tuesday and I didn't get much done.
After the first draft is completed, I will go through at least two self-edits, then put the manuscript out to beta readers, and then a professional edit. Believe it or not, the editing process is my favorite.
FLAME GAME will become the third book in the Aspen Falls Thriller series, after RED TIDE and THE MISSINGS.
Readers have loved the characters in these books and well... so have I. I'm loving spending more time with them.

Okay, I had another one word answer but I've learned that GR isn't happy with those.
Write.
Keep writing. With every story you write you'll improve.
Keep reading. Learn from the writers who you admire.

Readers.
Okay, Goodreads wants more words.... (Personally, I thought that one word answer was perfect.)
My wings are lifted with every reader who lets me know they enjoyed one of my books. More than anything else, readers encourage me to set my butt in my chair an struggle through that first draft. And the second and fourth and fifteenth. And then the edits.
It's all about readers.

Writer's block can be deceptive.
Usually with me, rather than an actual block, it's a little voice in my head that tells me I'm a fake and a quack and can't possibly right a book. Or another book. Or this book.
The best course of action when this happens is simply to put words to paper (or computer screen). A lot of them might suck, but it's the ones that are keepers that make that little voice go silent. At least for a while.

Satis, I had no idea I had any questions or comments here. I'm just tickled to have connected with someone.

Whoa. My apologies for being so late in responding to you! Assuming you're still interested, I'm in the process of turning RED TIDE and THE MISSINGS into the first two books of the Aspen Falls Thriller series. THE SACRIFICE will be book one in a series I haven't quite figured out the details to. My fourth book, FLAME GAME, will be book three in the Aspen Falls group. Clear as mud?
RED TIDE was my first. For a beginner book it seems to have struck quite a cord with readers. If you think I have potential after reading that one, I think we're good.
