John Elray Independence and the ability to express my thoughts and feelings in some concrete form for others to share.
John Elray Keep at it. Attend workshops, connect with other writers, and learn how to edit your own work so that it's top notch material. Initially, use an editor for your first couple of books to help you see where your shortfalls are, then you should be able do 90% on your own... but you should ALWAYS have someone else review your work before you conclude that it's finished.
John Elray I'm currently working on a book of short stories and have completed about half of them. Too many good ideas makes it hard to choose one as a full length work. The short story route will hopefully highlight the one(s) with momentum that I can flesh out as standalone novels.
John Elray Usually a news story or some personal experience that I can project into a captivating plot. Sometimes the inspiration comes from a person, that I might meet casually or have an acquaintance with, who's a 'real character'.
John Elray Sleep on it... or take a break for a few hours. Your brain is still working in the background to deliver the right path or words to get through the block.
