For the first few years write like a fire hydrant with its top knocked off - write in all directions, get used to the feeling of keyboard on fingers. This is your weapon when you delve down into hell. Get used to finishing things - nobody cares about your unfinished manuscript, your poetry scraps, the letters left unread slipped under doors. Keep writing until you think it's going to burst inside of you. Figure out which words feel the best on your tongue and on your fingers, the kind of words that make your knuckles ache. Listen to a lot of doom metal and dubstep. Quit running away from the emotions that make you ache - this will be your ammunition.
