Kate Collins I don’t have any current plans to continue the series. I am currently working on another mystery from the flower shop series. But I may go back to the goddess series in the future. It was a fun series to work on. Thank you for writing.
Kate Collins My initial reaction was surprise. I didn't see her as Abby at all. But she really wanted to play Abby as an older, wiser, but still funny and energetic adult, and I think she captured that. Although the movies aren't as good as my books, it was still a treat to see a famous actress reciting lines that I had written, acting in a town made completely from my imagination.
Kate Collins Unfortunately they are not. Thanks for asking.
Kate Collins Mary,
Because I'm currently writing THE GODDESS OF GREENE ST. mysteries, I don't have enough time to squeeze in a full length FLOWER SHOP novel at this time but won't rule it out for the future. In the meantime, my novellas are out in print form, too. You can go to my website and click on a link to take you to the Amazon page to buy them. Tell your grandmother I send my best wishes.

Kate Collins I don't personally read other people's works but I can tell you my best advice is to join a writers' group, and join a national writers' organization, such as Mystery Writers of America, or Romance Writers of America. That's where I learned what I needed to know about how to construct a novel and how to get it published. The conferences are usually over a weekend and are full of one hour instructional courses. I highly recommend them. Hope this helps.
Kate Collins There are a few books on my list so far. I usually don't pick this far in advance, but here are some I plan to read:
The Rent Collector
The Sound of Gravel
The House We Grew Up In

Kate Collins Hi, Annie,
Penguin cut the Obsidian line, so officially there won't be any books coming from them. However, I wrote two novellas and they're available via my website at www.katecollinsbooks.com. I am currently writing a brand new series called The Goddess of Greene St. mysteries with a new publisher, but I still plan to write more Flower Shop novellas. Check back with my website for more information. Thanks for writing!
Kate Collins Hi Michelle,
No, I designed each book so that the reader understands who the central cast of characters are and how they relate to each other and the Flower Shop. Many of my readers have picked up a book that's not the first one, MUM'S THE WORD, then decided to go back and read from the beginning.
I hope that helps. Have a healthy, happy New Year.
Kate
Kate Collins Mary, in the Penguin Random House merger, everyone writing mysteries for NAL was cut. I'm at a new publishing house now and just finished the first book in a new series, THE GODDESS OF GREENE. Entitled "Statue of Limitations, the story will be just as suspenseful and entertaining as THE FLOWER SHOP MYSTERIES, with a cast of characters you and your grandmother will love. The bad news is that it won't be published until February of next year. In the meantime, I'm going to try to squeeze in another Flower Shop novella. Thanks for asking. Happy New Year! Kate
Kate Collins Hard to narrow it down. Maybe setting my own hours, or knowing that I'm providing entertainment to a lot of people, or being able to write in my pajamas.
Kate Collins Join a writing group that critiques. Join a national organization that knows the market. Soak up all the writing advice you can and don't be afraid of rejection. A writer has to see a rejection as a lesson, not as an arrow to the heart. The lesson may be that you've targeted the wrong publisher or it may mean you have work to do on your story. This is where a strong critique group can help. In any event, accept critique advice with an open mind. Never see it as "criticism."
Kate Collins I take a break, and that may mean an hour, a day, or a week. Then I read what I've already written to see it with new eyes. Often I just write the "talking heads" scenes, where the characters chatter back and forth about the murder, with no description or prose at all. Then I can go back and fill in what I need to and take out what's not necessary.
Kate Collins I'm writing #19 in the series, YEWS WITH CAUTION.
Kate Collins Having a deadline will do that. But I would write whether I was under contract or not. That's just what my mind does.
Kate Collins It actually came from the new neighborhood I moved to. There's a pond behind my house that seemed designed for a murder plot, and there were a series of burglaries committed by "someone" in the neighborhood. How could I not write a fictionalized account of it? Of course I changed the names to protect the innocent -- or should I say guilty?
