Victoria Colotta Creating characters. This is the part that I have always loved. As a reader, I am drawn to the complex and deeply flawed characters. As a writer, I love to research names that can embody who my characters will be. There is no chance to the what a character is called in one of my books. It is through this that I build out who they will be in the beginning and the end of the story.
Victoria Colotta Dealing with writer's block sucks. There are a few things that I always try. The first is to take my dog for a walk. This clears my head and I get some exercise. If that doesn't work, I put on some music and draw. There is something about the act of drawing that completely calms me. Finally, if that doesn't work, I walk away. I do something for myself that has nothing to do with the book. I will bake, clean, re-organize my bookshelves, paint my nails, or read a book. By stepping back and not thinking about the story, always sparks something down the line whether it be an hour or a day.
Victoria Colotta Hands down, it has to be Elizabeth Bennet and Fitzwilliam Darcy. I have loved these two ever since I first read PRIDE AND PREJUDICE in high school.

The simple fact that Mr. Darcy ends up with a smart, stubborn, and strong woman at the end just always appealed to me. Maybe it is because I see myself in Lizzy or maybe it is just because path that lead these two together. Who knows! They are (and forever will be) my favorite fictional couple.
