Did a lot of caving while at University in Canada. Was fun to explore. I remember crawling on my stomach through a narrow rock tunnel when I came upon a porcupine. She looked a little miffed we had crawled into her home so I told the others behind me we had to back-slide out of there. Only to realize, as we were doing so, it was not mud we were crawling through. It was porcupine poop! We also repelled down a 50 foot drop for one cave which was a thrill! So you never know what you might find underground.

An idea will just pop out at me and I have to write it down before anything else. I like to write in scenes. Not linearly. I like to write the middle of a story first, then write the ending, and finally write the beginning. Sometimes a scene just comes to mind and I realize that's what I will be writing today. Eventually it all gets linked together.

The idea for the The Adventurers Troll Creek first started back when I was 8 years old. I was reading everything in sight, but the frustration was that the girl characters were always being held back. Like a giant leash was attached to them. So I started writing my own stories in my head with strong female leads. This lead to The Adventurers with Dana and Amy plunging their bikes over cliffs, solving a 100 year old mystery and exploring an old abandoned coal mine.

Question everything. Learn as much about the business as you can and then pick your battles. The best advice I got along the way was to keep on keeping on.
