I've just received a great big dose of inspiration from Judy Blume, Jean Hanff Korelitz, and other talented fiction authors during the 2024 Sun Valley Writers' Conference. I'm ready to dig into a rewrite of my second novel, featuring a 17 year old, Nikki, who has to make a very difficult decision.

Thank you for your encouragement to continue Corinna's story. I'd love to hear your ideas for what might happen as she gets older. I imagine there would be certain days or events when she misses her mom more intensely, but that there would also be lots of times when she is busy with "normal" life: friends, school, activities, frustrations, joys. I like to think that she and her dad will develop some new routines while also keeping her mom a part of their lives, by talking about her and their memories.

I was inspired by the many kids and adults whose stories about loss I have listened to as a social worker. I also drew on some of my own experiences during my mother's illness and death. Thanks for your questions and encouragement! I am working on another young adult novel, with a different cast of characters and challenges.

Go for a walk. Don't listen to music during the walk. Instead, let your mind wander, noticing things around you, which can act as prompts. Bring your phone to record voice memos as ideas pop into your head.
