Probably Scott Summers and Jean Grey. They were literally the "power" couple I enjoyed reading about back in the day, and what they've done to those two characters represents a lot of the reason I don't do comics anymore...

Hi, A.R.!
I think a lot of us who write fantasy owe a lot to H.P. Lovecraft. I'm assuming you are referring to some of the beasties that Mira encounters along the Exhibition. Or, you read my story in the Dark Hall Press Cosmic Horror Anthology, where I was trying to channel Lovecraft as hard as I could, as that was what Dark Hall Press was looking for. I did try to make both those stories weird and wild, that's for sure. I hope that a bit of Gaiman and King shows through as well in my writing. We all channel what we've read in our lives and put it into our writing. As with all of us, we are what we eat! -DK

(view spoiler)[Thanks for the question, Aimee! After a year of thinking that there was no way I could write a sequel to The Mussorgsky Riddle, I had an idea in mid-December that knocked my socks off. Just getting started, I'm about 6,500 words in on this new project and going strong. I'll have to see where it goes, but it's looking good so far! (hide spoiler)]

After a year of telling everyone there was no way I could ever write a sequel to The Mussorgsky Riddle, I had an abrupt change of attitude when I awoke from a particularly compelling dream on 18 Dec 2014, then was listening to a little classical later that day. Suffice to say that... anything is possible. ;-)

I love Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition. I was reading the titles of the various movements of this piece one day, and when I read "The Gnome", "The Old Castle", "The House on Fowl's Legs", "The Great Gate of Kiev", etc., one simple thing occurred to me: those are chapter titles. The rest is history! Darin

The answer to this is twofold. The discovery of the story as it comes out is almost as surprising to me often as it is to the reader, and I enjoy seeing what happens as much as the next person. More recently, however, it has been hearing from satisfied readers that want to read more of what I write. That's enough to get you to the keyboard anytime!
