All of my stories come from the things I love. Magic, mermaids, the supernatural, etc. I think about the story that I've always wanted to read and if it doesn't exist, then a character will come to me and I figure out what their story is.

These days, I'd have to go with Jane Villanueva and Michael Cordero Jr. from JANE THE VIRGIN. Michael had a lot of growing to do in season one, but ultimately he showed how much he loved Jane. Their love was so pure and honestly written that I fell in love with them.

I think the main question you have to ask yourself is "What does my character want?" Every chapter is about getting the characters closer to what they want. The harder it is to achieve that, the more exciting the plot. Hope that helps!

I typically don't base characters off people, but I do have character traits that inspire some. The group of guy friends in The Vicious Deep was inspired by my group of guy friends when I was younger. The grandmother in Labyrinth Lost was named after my own great grandmother a tribute.
