Kimberly Ranee Hicks Finding out your family isn't exactly who you thought they were!
Kimberly Ranee Hicks The Goddesses; A Tale of Two Kitties; Lies She Told, just to name a few.
Kimberly Ranee Hicks I hate that bitch! That's what I call her. Writer's block is one of the most horrible, sinister bitches to ever live. You think the Wicked Witch of the West was something, hmmph, you've never met Writer's Block. The longest time she ever invaded my space was three years. I could have strangled her with my bare hands, but she wouldn't release me. I got so frustrated, I cried sometimes, it was that bad. So, how do I deal with it? I ride it out until it leaves. I never know from one moment to the next how long she'll last, when she arrives, but what I do when I go through it is read other author's work. Sometimes, that will bring me out of my funk. For me, using my other talents will beat her up. When she's gone, I celebrate like there's no tomorrow.
Kimberly Ranee Hicks I'm one of those writers where inspiration finds me. I'm not one that seeks out a story--stories seek me out. Usually, a character will reveal himself to me in my dreams and some of them become so bothersome to the point I have to write them out in order for them to leave me be. Once I write them out, they disappear never to return. This is my strange way of writing and always has been. My soul has to become full and when it does, the only way for me to get relief is to release them onto the world. Once I do that, I am at total peace. May be strange to some, but that's how my gift works. I've been like that all my life. I've learned to accept it.
Kimberly Ranee Hicks I'm writing a new drama that's a little different from what I'm used to writing. It has presented a new set of challenges, but one I'm willing to do because I believe in this story so much. If you go to my blog, http://mellojune.blogspot.com, you'll see the cover with a hint of what is to come. I'm not willing to say what type of book this is yet, until I'm ready to do a cover reveal. The cover you'll find on the blog is the ad cover. I'm hoping to have this novel finished in the next few weeks.
Kimberly Ranee Hicks If you know in your heart that there's a writer within, then don't just say it, be about it! Anything you want bad enough, you'll do everything possible to see it come to fruition. Writing is the same way. You make time for it. You study your craft; you take it serious; you do it every single day. This is not an occupation that you can do some of the time. It's a very unforgiving gift. If you don't use it, you'll become stale. You have to keep at it. You also have to know that whatever you put out into the universe, not everyone is going to like or accept your craft. You have to have a thick skin in this business. There will be so many opinions on what you do and some will be in your favor and some will not. You have to believe in your abilities and you should learn to handle criticism. Don't take every negative review as a bad thing. Some people have great advice and the only way for you to get better at what you do is by practice. This is why if you're truly serious, YOU must write daily. Believe in yourself and continue to grow as a writer. You can never learn enough!
Kimberly Ranee Hicks Being able to express myself. I love taking life's situations and spinning it into a tale that readers enjoy. In my writing world, I am the captain of the ship. There are no rules except for the ones I set for myself. Writing allows me the freedom to do whatever I wish to do without any real consequences. Being a writer helps me to relieve myself of whatever issues I'm currently dealing with. It's the only way I can truly be me and within my element. Once I've released my inner most sacred thoughts out into the world, I am whole. There's no greater feeling! That's a sense of power that I use wisely.
Kimberly Ranee Hicks Silent Knight is a story that came from my upbringing having to grow up in the projects. Much like Clarence, my family didn't have a choice in the matter, so we had to make the best of a rather unfavorable decision. Many of the characters are real people I grew up around. Many who read the story said the characters appeared real, and now you know why because many are patented after people I actually know or knew. Another reason I wrote this book is because I absolutely loved the 70s. It was my favorite decade thus far! From the clothing to the music, it was a very exciting time to live. I'm so glad I was a part of the movement!
