Suzie Carr I love learning, and I love bringing what I learn into my stories. So, learning is what inspires me to write. The other day, I visited with a beekeeper to soak up his knowledge. I walked into his apiary like a blank canvas, having no story idea yet other than knowing I want my main character to be a beekeeper. Three hours later, after learning incredible facts and seeing the honeybee hives, I walked away with a title and storyline!
Suzie Carr With my most recent book, Sandcastles, I wanted to write a story that would teach me how to live life to the fullest. A good friend of mine had passed away years ago, and I'll never forget the look in his eye the day we met for the last time. His eyes were filled with regret, and also with an urgency to communicate that as long as I'm alive, I can have fun exploring life instead of just existing in it. That last look we shared was the first seedling to Sandcastles, planted many years ago and never forgotten.
Suzie Carr Currently, I am writing Writer's Insights, a book chocked full of tips for aspiring writers. This book is based on my Writer's Insights Video Series, which is made up of 20 videos that answer popular frequently asked questions about how to write a novel. It can be accessed at www.authorinsightsbysuzie.com.

Additionally, I am in research mode for my next novel due out in late 2015, tentatively titled, Taking Flight.
Suzie Carr I love learning, so for me, the research and discovery process makes writing the ultimate pleasure for me. For my next novel, my lead is going to be a beekeeper. To research this, I will be tagging along with a beekeeper in DC, and experiencing the joy of wearing a suit and hanging with the bees!
Suzie Carr I free write. I start out each session by starting a 10 minute timer. I write uncensored for 10 minutes straight, typically from my character's viewpoint, about anything that comes to mind. I might be sitting in a cafe, so I might just start freewriting about the cup of coffee I'm drinking and draw upon sensory details. By the time my timer goes off, I'm usually well on my way to filling a full page and diving into a scene that my character is just dying to get into ;)
Suzie Carr Read. Read often. Read the good and the bad, for they both have their lessons.
