When I plot a book, I have to keep digging into the character's personal story and strategizing how best to make that work with an engaging plot. When the two come together, it's like rocket fuel! Or writer's fuel, I guess. : )

For me, writer's block usually comes down to writing something I'm not enjoying. This can be at the genre level or a single scene. If I'm not Ito it, then something isn't working. And if my heart isn't in it, the reader's won't be either.

Oh, so many choices! My first instinct is to visit Middle Earth from The Lord of the Rings. Who wouldn't love to meet a shield maiden or be a part of the king's return to power. The camaraderie and relationships that develop between those characters in the worst of times always makes me cry, laugh, and cheer. You can't beat that.

In hindsight, I completely understand why people always said to just keep writing, every day. It's like a muscle you want to keep in shape. After a long spell of not writing very much, I found it more difficult to resume. So even when blocked, keep writing something, anything, to keep your skills up.
I'd also tell new writers to know their personality type. How fast you write the first draft, how much you perfect it the first time, whether you plot or pants your way through are just a few of the things your personality type will decide for you. In a nutshell, do what works best for you.

Thanks so much, Frankie! I really appreciate your taking the time to write, and I'm so glad you enjoyed the coven series. I'll be sending out a sneak peek at the news series with my Halloween newsletter, and I hope you like the new group too. : ) as for Halloween, I'm gearing up to eat some sweet stuff this week and watch plenty of scary movies. Hope you have a wonderful Halloween as well and thank you!!
