I love this question, because in my upcoming fourth book, Room For Doubt, (July 2017) I took a story my grandmother had shared with me about a reclusive old woman who had lived next door to her. She not only was a mystery, but the cause of several strange happenings in the neighborhood. I won't spoil the book and tell you what she did or how, only that she was the inspiration for this new work and comments from my advanced reader team are; 'is this for real?' Stay tuned.

John,
No, that's my name...at least three of them. I started my radio career under the name Nancy Cole and years later met my husband, Bruce. Some people know me as Nancy Cole, others only as Brice's wife. Hence the two surnames. None of which are the name I was born with. Women are so mysterious.

I'll check out your short stories. I've been teaching short story classes lately and that would be the quickest read for me.

Write. Write and write some more. Writing is like playing the piano or anything - it require practice. The more you do, the better you get.
And read. Musicians would never not listen to music. If you want to write, you have to read.

I worked in radio for twenty-five years. Many of my stories and this new series I'm working on take place inside a radio station. I like the fact that radio is theater of the mind. For years I wrote ad copy, promotions, news and late night mystery theater. it's a fabulous medium and many of the skills translate well to the page.

I view writing as a job. I sit down everyday, just as though I'd gone to the offce and I work on a scene. I try to get it in the best shape I can and then move on to the next. I don't start the day with the goal of writing a set number of words, but with setting a scene and then working from there. Sometimes, if I'm stuck I move ahead to another scene. It doesn't matter if it's in order or not. Eventually, I know I'll be rewriting it anyway. The important thing is to keep the story flowing inside me and onto the page.

I agree. Whether on a computer, a scrap of paper or in your head, write. And read. Read to expand your writing skills and your horizons.
