Is there a plan to make some of the novels in tv series? Amber and the Hidden City would be an incredible series.
Milton J. Davis I wish! We are working on a Changa's Safari animated film project. And I agree, Amber would make a great series.

Milton J. Davis Yes. I'm actually working on a sequel, La Rosa De Matanzas, featuring Zeke's love interest, Pauline.

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?
Milton J. Davis I've always enjoyed alternate history, but the sources seemed always to be Eurocentric. So I decided to take a look at history from an African American perspective. I asked the question, 'What if the Haitian revolution sparked a successful revolution in the American South? What would be the consequences for America and the rest of the world?'

Milton J. Davis My inspiration comes from a variety of sources; music, art, history and conversations.

Milton J. Davis I'm currently working on From Here to Timbuktu, a steamfunk novel.

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?
Milton J. Davis Take a writing course to learn the basics then write as much as you can. The more you write, the better you'll get.

What’s the best thing about being a writer?
Milton J. Davis I love the creativity and the chance to write things the way I'd like to see them.

How do you deal with writer’s block?
Milton J. Davis I've never had writer's block because I'm usually working on two to three projects at a time. Whenever I'm not feeling one I'm usually in the mood for the other.

I'd like to know how long have you been writing and where does your creative inspiration come from? What would you like to see writers of color focusing more on as it relates speculative fiction? Who is your favorite writer and what was the last thing you read? I know, pretty long question!
Milton J. Davis Hi Rosa. I've been writing off and on for at least 20 years. My inspiration comes from a variety of sources; history, music, art and other writers. I'd like to see writers of color tackle all aspects of speculative fiction. We need to have our hands in everything! :-) My favorite writer is Charles R. Saunders, and the last book I read was The Seedbearing Prince II by DeVaun Sanders. It's an excellent book.
