Probably not a real question but I have been imagining the life of rivers closer home to me (Australia) and the way in which you could weave the problems of colonialism and indigenous cultures and the weird lack of history white Australians have now (no connection to the land, no connection to their ancestors land). Would the Sydney river be an Australian Aboriginal for example, or a convict or something else again?
Ben Aaronovitch That's a very difficult question from so far away. Maybe you should have a wander down and ask it :)

I love Peter Grant's (and therefore your) tidbits of architecture knowledge throughout your books. Is this acquired by living in London? Or do you actively seek out architectural details? Really helps visualise. So excited for your next book!! :)
Ben Aaronovitch Both really, I didn't know about architecture until I started writing the books but I had seen a lot of examples of different styles. When I started researching I found one informing the other.

Ben Aaronovitch Nothing formal, apart from boxing, before World War Two and then the standard Close Quarter Combat Training that commandos got. (It's literally called the Close Quarters Combat system and was developed from Defendu).

I am not into music but would like to get a feel for the songs most frequently mentioned by Peter Grant. Could you point me in a direction, maybe a Spotify playlist or an album I could check out? I asked my dad but he's an AC/DC kind of guy and only tells me about Louis Armstrong.

Are you related to a Nigerian woman? Is that how you know the culture?
Ben Aaronovitch Not by blood or marraige but alot of my school friends had Nigerian mothers so I spent alot of time in their kitchens when I was young.
