Victoria Caro The peoples of the world became complacent, forgetting the hard-learned value of mutual respect. And the world plunged into a nightmare of conflict and despair.
Victoria Caro My children are Spanish thanks to me and American thanks to their father, and The Quixote Pact was my attempt to present them with an adventure that consolidated their heritage from both sides in a common story they could be proud off. The funny thing is that, when I started to research, I was blown away by how much common history there really was. I had no idea of the scope of Spain's involvement in the American Revolution and her vital role to its success. But maybe more importantly, I was shocked how little information there was about it in the history books. So, the novel became a personal project to tell, through the intriguing search of a true lost American treasure, the surprisingly unknown role of Spain in the inception of the United States.
Victoria Caro This is a tricky question because we are all in it for different reasons or expectations. If you want to write for the love of it, then there is no other advice than “just do it”. Second-guessing your qualifications, acceptance, potential for success, and so on, is unproductive and irrelevant. So, sit down and start writing to your heart’s content. However, if you are hoping to make money, and don’t have a strong player in the industry to back you up, then it is no different than setting up a small business on your own with an extraordinary amount of competition, hoping to turn a profit. Be ready for a lot of hard work, not ALL of it fun, but certainly worth it, if you believe in the product and yourself!
Victoria Caro That I do what I like. I write because I enjoy it. I have an active imagination, and I truly have fun sitting in front of my computer ready to find out what is going to happen next in my own story. If, additionally, it brings joy to others as well, then the satisfaction compounds exponentially!
Victoria Caro So far—crossing fingers—I have not experienced it. Maybe the way I approach writing is the trick. You see, contrary to common practice, I like to write without a plan about subjects that I find intriguing but know nothing about. That's part of the fun for me, the research, the discovery of fascinating historical facts or learning about mind-blowing science with extraordinary applications. And as I learn, the new information provides me with new ideas and the story unfolds before me.
