Vaughn R. Demont Nick is written in character voice, so his uses of profanity extend beyond his dialogue. Nick was inspired by actors like Joe Pesci, Ed Norton, actors who are known for their "blue language" in performances, which often extend in their lives. Nick is usually put in stressful situations, and since he's not the average urban fantasy hero, his reactions speak more to his environment, upbringing, and personality. People react, people swear, use profanities and vulgarities in response to frustration and anger and strong emotional occurrences. I tend to see it not as "Why does Nick swear?" by rather as "why wouldn't he swear?"
Vaughn R. Demont Yes, they're all available again on Amazon, free to read with Amazon Unlimited. Forgive the lateness of my reply.
Vaughn R. Demont My day job as a professor is taking up a lot of my focus, but I'm going to try like Hell to have Blood and Ashes done and submitted before the end of the summer. After that, it's back to work on Broken Mirrors, as well as a primer for Angels, Ghosts, and Runaways, an anthology featuring LGBTIQA and POC heroes in the City I'm hoping to get off the ground. After that, it's standalones or maybe trying a new series.
Vaughn R. Demont Wayward Son is sitting at about 30k, but the side project, "Blood and Ash", has taken up my attention as of late. It's been a pretty hectic summer for me, but I'm getting back to Wayward Son, which will be concentrating wholly on Spencer, as soon as I'm done with Blood and Ash, which will be a standalone also set in the Broken Mirrors universe.
Vaughn R. Demont I do read, but it's usually for fun. A lot of my writing ideas come from trope research, looking into reader expectations, and a lot of that is from taking in lots of different media, like books, comics, movies, TV shows, video games, because readers don't just read nowadays. They've got multimodal literacy that you have to respect and appreciate.
Mostly I thank various artists because it's who I listen to while I'm writing, and it generally ends up being techno, electronica, house, trance, ambient, chill, shoegaze... the list goes on, really.
For book 5, I'm mostly listening to Crywolf, The Glitch Mob, BT, Celldweller, ODESZA... They're all amazing artists, and usually either cheap on Amazon. :)
Vaughn R. Demont Eventually, I'm hoping so. Lennox's story is by no means over, but I didn't want to do him a disservice with a mere cameo in Broken Mirrors. Likely, it'll be a self-publish once I'm done with Broken Mirrors.
Vaughn R. Demont No, it is not. :) I'm working on book 5, and there will be two more books after this, making the series a septology. After that, I have some notes on some standalones, and might begin a new series.
Vaughn R. Demont Currently? I'm working on Broken Mirrors #5, Wayward Son, but I have a couple standalone projects set in The City as well. I'm hoping to put in some more dedicated time on them as the year goes on. Thanks for asking!
Vaughn R. Demont The plot of my next most recent book?
Vaughn R. Demont Any kind of music that makes me want to close my eyes.
Vaughn R. Demont Final line edits for Breaking Ties, dignity-shredding commissioned porn to pay the remaining balance on my trip to Coastal Magic, and notes for Wayward Son.
