R.L. Davis Hays The idea for book 3 of the Translations from Jorthus series came from staring at my Earth Science book in college. The map of the ocean floor fascinated me! The idea that the landscape, if traveling on an ocean bed devoid of water, would hold mountains larger than any seen on land (because the formations of islands would require the mountain to peak over the depth of the sea and then some) was mesmerizing. I wanted to see it!
R.L. Davis Hays I enjoy listening to music or going outside alone. Writing is a solitary art, which is why it is sometimes difficult to accomplish when our lives are filled with people and errands. However, I would never wish to trade the people in my life for the characters in my head!
R.L. Davis Hays I am half-way through book four in the Translations from Jorthus series. The climax of the main investigative plot in books 2 and 3 will be resolved. The end tale of the Dawnstone itself will come later.
R.L. Davis Hays Write the story that you want to read. Don't worry about plot or grammar on the first or second round of drafts as these things can be cleaned up once the story is out and done.
R.L. Davis Hays I try to clear my head. Plot questions and worry over characters can get muddled if given freedom to overrun one's mind. So, I like to take a walk or, better yet, a drive by myself. My brain usually sparks many episodes of dialogue or political intrigue while I drive. Perhaps it is because my motor functions are engaged in paying attention to the road. I'm not sure, but a long drive really kicks my brain into overdrive.
