C.M. Genton I have to really care about the characters and themes to put in the years of research and writing, as well as survive the process of critique and marketing.
When I find that, I look forward to getting up every morning.
C.M. Genton I would live in Narnia, at the time of high king Peter, with Susan, Edmund, and Lucy.
C.M. Genton I deal with writer's block by only writing about things I really care about. But it also means I'm not broadly published, so this is not a good model for many people. I envy writers who regularly produce written works and have built up a track record and reputation. They are the ones who tend to have to fight through writer's block.
C.M. Genton For me, the best thing about being a writer is the potential to initiate meaningful contact with others and inspire ideas and conversations.
C.M. Genton Everyone has something to say to others and a story that matters. Much of that will be communicated informally.
However, if someone is compelled to take their story (fictitious or true) to the general public, be prepared to invite critique before publishing.
Critique can be painful but it's necessary in order to make your writing accessible to readers. What's in our heads does not necessarily translate well to others.
Get all the free critique you can, but definitely pay for the best you can afford.
C.M. Genton I am currently writing the sequel to Sons of Adamah, called Daughters of Adamah (and planning book 3, Children of Adamah). Daughters of Adamah primarily follows Ann, but also answers questions left over from book 1--such as "What happened to the other characters and Earth before the Visitors arrived?"
C.M. Genton The idea for Sons of Adamah originiated in my own ambivalence about what it means for me to be a woman. Ambivilence is an age-old issue that was modified by societal norms (some of those norms helpful, others not so much). Watching ALL those norms disintegrate for my children and grandchildren motivated me to put pen to paper.
