Mark Onspaugh A lot of the fiction I read deals with lone protagonists, so this was not an easy question. But after some thought, I would have to say Morticia and Gomez Addams, as characterized by the 60s television series with Carolyn Jones and John Astin.

The reasons I chose them? They are devoted parents who are still passionately in love with each other, something they demonstrate often. They are committed to one another, and there has never been a hint of boredom, infidelity or cruelty in their years together. They embrace what makes the other unique, and champion both the dark and the light within their mate... Of course, this being the Addamses, there's more dark than light, but I would trust their marriage to endure long after more conventional fairy tale romances have dissipated and waned.
Mark Onspaugh I often go for a walk or take a drive - sometimes you need to step away and let your subconscious noodle around a bit.
Mark Onspaugh Write every day, never give up - I have sold stories that were rejected 20 or 30 times before someone said "yes" - remember that a rejection is often just one person.

It's all well and good to self-publish, but also try writing for a paying market, whether you write novels or short stories. Nothing will help you improve your craft like going through that fire. It hurts, it's maddening, but sometimes you get encouragement and helpful criticism - use those things, they're gold!
Mark Onspaugh A kaiju (giant monster) novel for Severed Press, who published The Thetis Plague. After that, it will be a sequel to The Faceless One for Random House/Hydra.
