Michael Witheford You should be in love with your story or topic or the idea of your project. You should want to do it every day. When I came up with the idea for the Beatles book, I immediately went to work, and the research was very tiring, but I knew that it would be worth it.
Michael Witheford A book about the Best Rock Videos Of All Time.
Michael Witheford I've never felt really qualified to give advice in this are. My first novel Buzzed was picked up by Penguin but I can't say WHY, except they enjoyed it.

However ... get your friends to read your stuff and be honest with you. If you have something they'll know. Try to get someone who writes professionally; could be a journo, anyone, to see what they think and be honest with you. If they like it too, keep writing and send stuff to a publisher. They will look at it at some point. Could take a while.
Michael Witheford I quite like the hours, which are any time you like. Some nights I'll be working at 4am. Some mornings at 9am. What you have to accept if you're writing alone is that you'll miss out on a lot of normal social contact. Water cooler chat etc.
Writing is pure pleasure when things are clicking. I don't feel right unless I'm writing something, even if it's just emails.
Michael Witheford I don't get it. I force myself to keep going.
Michael Witheford There are hundreds of books about The Beatles and a lot of them contain a certain amount of criticism. But there has never been a book which takes a closer look at the songs that are a bit dodgy, average or plain bad. I'm a fan of the band but not a nerd about them. What I've attempted to do is make the book amusing and to examine what went wrong during the group's time as the biggest thing on the planet other than the actual planet.
Of course no-one will agree with my list. Some might think it's heresy. But hopefully It'll start a few arguments.
