Janice Hardy My husband. His superpower is giving me book ideas. We were in the car one day on a long road trip and he just had this, "What if..." idea. I had to write it.
Janice Hardy Read authors I love, usually Harlan Ellison. But most days I get up and sit down at the keyboard and work, because that's what I do. Not every day feels inspired, but I have to write if I want to get those books done.

It usually works because I have a tale I want to tell, but on days when the words just will not come, I go do something else. Forcing it never ends well and I throw out whatever I tried to write anyway. Better to take the break when I need it.
Janice Hardy I just finished the final draft of an adult Urban Fantasy called "Blood Ties." I'm also working on a nonfiction writing book project.
Janice Hardy Read a lot and write a lot. You develop your writer's ear by reading other book and hearing both good and bad prose. Then you can identify it when you hear it in your own manuscript.

For a more specific answer...study point of view. Having a solid understanding of POV will help you avoid 90% of all common writing mistakes.
Janice Hardy Writing stories that make readers as happy and excited as I get when I read a great author I love. It's just fun to share a love of stories.
Janice Hardy I try to think of it as "being stuck" instead of blocked. It's a weird mental shift, but stuck just means I need to figure out something, while block means I'm prevented from moving forward.

When I do get stuck, I walk away from the keyboard and do other things so my subconscious can work on the problem in the background. Washing my hair helps more often than not. I think it's the mindless activity while massaging the brain that does it.
Janice Hardy I either use places I'm familiar with, or places that fit something about the story. Since I write fantasy ans science fiction, I base my created worlds on real places and develop them from there.
