Puma Perl I was asked to be the first poet to publish a solo volume by great weather for media, who had previously published only anthologies. The ideas came when I started writing and letting the work speak to me as I assembled it and discovered new themes. That volume, "Retrograde," consists of some older work and some new work written as the themes of a post apocalyptic vision, underlined by dreams, the cycling (and failures) of modern relationships, and the music that has most influenced my life. If there were a soundtrack it would be the Velvet Underground. Contrary to what some claim, it is not "about" or "for" any particular person.
Puma Perl I have no idea. If I waited for inspiration I probably wouldn't write. In my opinion, you write, and then the inspiration appears. Of course, there are exceptions, where the inspiration comes from a person, an overheard conversation, a piece of music, etc - but, unless writing is just a hobby, you can't wait for those times. It has to be approached in a more workmanlike way.
Puma Perl I am working on a volume of linked short stories based on my character, Ruby True, the subject of a chapbook by that title.
Puma Perl Keep reading and listening as you develop your own voice. Take a chance at an open mike, if your writing lends itself to performance. There is a lot for poets to learn when we hear our words out loud.
Puma Perl Documentation of existence.
Puma Perl I don't believe in writer's block. Sometimes writers take a rest. We are still thinking and creating, it has just not yet reached the page.
