Kevin C. Fitzpatrick I always believe it is "What fresh hell is this," based on the 1988 book by Marion Meade that uses it in the title. It's taken to be that is how Mrs. Parker answered the telephone. That was reported by more than one acquaintance.

Thanks for the question! Any more?
Kevin C. Fitzpatrick After I wrote A Journey into Dorothy Parker's New York, I felt like I should talk about the rest of the Vicious Circle. Since that book was a guide to the places Parker lived and worked, I wanted to tell the story about all 30 members of the Algonquin Round Table. This included the lesser-known names of the group, who I found fascinating. My new book, The Algonquin Round Table New York: A Historical Guide, is similar to the previous book, but much bigger in scope.
Kevin C. Fitzpatrick Right now I am making video book trailers for The Algonquin Round Table New York: A Historical Guide. My first was about Alexander Woollcott, and the second about Harold Ross, Jane Grant, and Woollcott. Coming up will be ones about the women of the Vicious Circle (not named Feber and Parker), and one for Franklin P. Adams. They are on my author page and YouTube channel.
