My heart pounded rapidly against my chest as I looked into the fiery red eyes of the shadowy demon who stood over me, snarling. It only took one quick motion, one fatal swipe, and I could feel the blood spurt from my jugular.

There are three main things that inspire me to write:
1. My family. My daughter has such a captive imagination that I feel like it just radiates out and inspires me to write more.
2. I’m surrounded by beautiful scenery and it really is so capturing
3. Other books! When I finish a good story, it always inspires me to write. I always want to try invoke the same emotions other authors have invoked in me.

Funnily enough, years ago, I had such a problem with writer’s block, but it doesn’t feel like as much of a problem anymore.
I think that’s due to my day job as a software engineer. I’m forced to solve challenging problems in my 9-5, so being able to write is like an escape. It’s partially why I tend towards fiction, especially fantasy, as it’s a world I can get lost in.

I've had an idea in my head for a fictional world where multiple stories could take place for a long time now, probably around six or seven years. After proving to myself that I could in fact complete a book and publish it, I've been inspired to finally take the plunge and start working on a story within that world that will span across three books.

I got the idea for The Blackstone Legacy mostly from the surrounding geography of my town.
There is a ringfort atop a hill nearby, and I always felt it would be a good setting for a camp/battle. Also, in the centre of my town, there are a few old buildings that made perfect sense to be involved in some typical fantasy settings.
I changed the names of these places within the book, but it was from this that the idea was generated.
