Let your story be a story. Don't turn it into an agenda.

For awhile I was part of a writer's group and every Christmas we'd share short stories aloud to each other. Nicholas Knack's adventure, "Farewell, My Chubby," is the result.
The best part audience agreed was watching the guy next to me who was reading over my shoulder try not to explode in laughter because he knew the next joke.
