I get inspired by so many things! Sometimes it's just a "moment" and I decide that it was so important that I need to develop an entire story around it just so I can tell the world about this "moment"!

I'm presently writing a father-son story that entails the issue of adults caring for their elderly parents. It's in the very early stages, but I'm very excited about the premise!

A number of years ago, I worked with women diagnosed with borderline personality disorder. During a meeting with the people who supervised our work, one mentioned how someone should write a novel about a women with BPD, but not like the movie Fatal Attraction. I remember thinking, I want to do that, and while I didn't have the plot or characters yet, I knew then that I would write the book and it would give voice to those with the disorder.

Read! Read, read, read! Read everything you can! Fiction books, books on writing, writing magazines. Even spend time checking out writing websites and see what they have to offer, what might be useful to you as you learn the craft. Then write. Write in a journal, or try practice pieces, or write essays. Write that novel you've been carrying around in your head and get it down on paper--even if it sounds terrible. You can't edit it until you get it written down.

I stop trying to write, and I read. I dive into a new book, whether it's fiction or a writing craft book, then I start taking notes. This usually gives me all kinds of new ideas for the present book I'm working on as well as future books.
