Rob Kagan Hi Ellen -

Thanks for taking a chance on my book. I hope it sparks many good conversations. Feel free to leave a review as it helps me get the word out about the book.

There is so much more I could write about my extended journey. But feel like I want to take a 180-degree turn.... and try something new. This has always been my guiding principle in my life. Don't be afraid to jump off that ledge which is something unfamiliar.

So, I am going to write about 1970's summer camp. It will be set as a novel...but will mostly come from real life. There is a quote in Tina Fey's memoir that says something like.... "Mom, why do I have to go to summer camp? I'm not fat or jewish?" Well, I am jewish and for me, this right of passage journey was out of this world, crazy and so memorable.

I start this writing journey this Sunday!

I'll keep you posted.

Rob

Rob Kagan I have just put aside passages or chapters that I could not get a good feel for and moved on to others. Sometimes - most times - working on other "stuff" has loosened up the threads needed to go back to those harder chapters and allowed me to slowly make headway until the blockage was gone.
Rob Kagan It has been a personal journey for me. I have learned a lot about myself.
Rob Kagan I'll give the same answer that I have been given many times...and helpful. Just write. Just keep writing. Worry about the structure and themes later. Just put pen to paper and let it flow out of you.
Rob Kagan This book was supposed to be a memento to my kids about their fairy tale like childhood on Martha's Vineyard. But as I started writing...it changed. The stories started coming out darker than intended. The story became a cautionary tale about pre-conceived notions of what "paradise" is supposed to look like.

Rob Kagan Our family moved to suburbia in 2017 from Martha’s Vineyard after 26 years on-island. And I wanted to create a memento for my children to remind them of their fairy tale like childhood by writing them a book…but it turned dark and into something completely different.
