Kent Merrell The Blade of Safavid began as a business book dealing with motivation. It was titled Someday Isle. Its twist pertained to the challenge we all face of getting around to something we want to or need to do. Someday I'll do it. Well, as I wrote, the premise started brilliantly and the nuts and bolts of motivation were exceptional. The setting however, needed something special. I added a story to spice it up. That story was fun. So I added to the story. Then the story became interesting, more interesting than the nuts and bolts of motivation. Then after I came up for air, the motivation book was so cluttered with business junk and the story so interesting, I dumped the business stuff, re-crafted the story, and Someday Isle became a dormant volcano. The Blade of Safavid became an interesting and delightful historical fiction novel. Someday I'll finish the book about motivation, after all it was brilliant too.
