I will allow it. If I fight it, it will persist. It may mean I don't write for days but by allowing it and not fighting it, it passes sooner. It also helps to talk to someone about what I am working on writing.

I am still amazed that people want to read my words.
I also love sitting down to write and feeling like I just had a great conversation with a friend.

Just write. Stop over thinking things. Not everyone will like what you write so write it for you. If people end up liking it then that's just a bonus!

I am currently working on a book about a stay in a mental health institution. When I was 12 years old I spent 6 weeks in a facility and am telling my story from my 12 year old perspective. I hope this work will bring awareness to mental health issues and mental health treatment facilities. I hope my story helps those who want to help understand what their young patients may be thinking or feeling.
This work is also another exercise in vulnerability for myself. I have had a lot of personal shame attached to this event in my early life. Even as an adult I still have people try to hurt me with this information. This is how I will free myself of any shame I have attached to the experience.

Inspiration is a tricky thing for me. I can't pinpoint what brings it on or when it will strike. I live inside my head a lot so most of the time I will find the urge to write about whatever is on my mind. However, there is no way for me to know which things will inspire me to move and which will get thrown to the side. I'm sorry, this answer probably isn't very helpful.

I wrote Finding My Reasons to Breathe to help organize my personal thoughts and try and figure myself out.
I had hit a low and was contemplating suicide when I decided to try and save myself, from myself. I started keeping a daily journal, doing yoga, and meditating. After about 9 months I decided to start writing this book as a way to dive deeper into my thoughts and try to find patterns in my thinking. I found that certain topics brought up certain memories and I used those stories to help further my understanding and also, hopefully, give the reader more context.
