Writer's block happens when you don't know what to write next. Usually avoided by planning beforehand, but sometimes because what you planned isn't working. Decide what the problem is, give it to your subconscious to deal with, and above all don't stress. The answer will come when you are doing something else, reading, eating, walking, in the shower.

Decide on your genre and read widely in it as there will be a lot of variety while also a lot in common - tropes they are called. Keep an eye on what is selling in your genre, for example in cozy mysteries paranormal is very popular these days. Then read writing how-to's, choosing the best based on reviews and ratings and any written by your favourite authors. Never stop learning. But most of all, enjoy the writing, be brave, get outside your comfort zone.

I'm about to start on the second title in the Hettie Parke Mysteries, Betwixt and Bewitched. Unfortunately, writing isn't the only thing indie authors have to do. There's all the paperwork (homework I call it, and didn't we all hate that) involved with publishing and marketing. I'm getting that sorted early in the new year so I can forget it for a while. I hope.
