The crippling self doubt, the paralysing fear of failure, and the heartbreak of rejections.
You're crippled, scared, and heartbroken because you're doing something so huge it is terrifying.
Enjoy the angst. Lean in to it. That's how art is made.

Believe in yourself and what it is you do. Not in a superficial way. Truly believe in your power to impact people and the world through story.
Write with meaning. Try to handle themes and ideas far bigger than yourself. Give a voice to the voiceless.
And whatever happens, just keep writing.

As a younger man, before I moved to Australia chasing a girl, I called a dirty old town in the north of England my home.
There used to be something of a man around town, a local and national celebrity who misused his power to abuse people.
People knew about it. They did nothing about it. It was tragic and it was quite avoidable. The more I looked at society, the more I noticed this was commonplace. Across the entire western world.
The more you look at life, the more you see that society is a serpent coiling around and devouring itself. Some days we are the head. Some days we are the tail.
Someone, a better and more influential person than I, needs to break the cycle.
