Emily Whitney I hardly feel like a writer, I'm still just thrilled that I finished a novel length story! I've started so many stories that would get 15-30 pages in and be done. It's not easy to fill 300 pages! BUT, I love to read and I love engaging in stories. I have so many floating around in my head, I am just excited to share them with others! If my stories can make people feel anything (happy, sad, angry, etc.) with the protagonist, then I call it work well done!
Emily Whitney This book was a fun experience for me. When I first started writing, I was truly just bored one day and opened up a word doc to get out some thoughts. Then I shared the first few chapters with my sister who started asking me weekly afterwards for the next chapter! It pushed me to keep writing and delivering!
Emily Whitney When I sat down to write, I had no real direction or even a fully formed story. I just started writing and next thing I knew, I was three chapters in! Once I got passed the intro chapters, I really started focusing on the story and all the twists and turns I wanted it to take. It really was a work in motion!
Emily Whitney I have been creating an outline for a sequel to The Orchid. It is my intent to be the final book for Eisa and this particular storyline. I have several other ideas I am currently toying with as well - we will just have to wait and see!
Emily Whitney Just do it! Sit down, get out your computer, and start writing. As a self-published author, I am by no means anything more than an aspiring writer myself, but I write for the pleasure of telling a story. I say, if you love to write and have a story brewing in your mind - JUST DO IT!! Who knows what will happen with it later!
Emily Whitney I usually just let it happen. If I have a block, it's usually because something isn't working with the story. So I step back, quit writing for a moment, and start analyzing and tearing apart the story in my mind so I can figure out where I need to go or what I need to fix! When writing The Orchid, I was constantly asking myself "Why would they do that?" or "What's the point?" so I could engage readers in those questions too. If I didn't have an answer, I knew something needed to change! I often live in this state of processing - especially while I'm trying to sleep!
Emily Whitney This answer changes for me all the time, but for right now, I'd go to any of the Greek worlds created by Jennifer Saint, Madeline Miller, or Claire Andrews. Especially Claire Andrews (!!) - I liked her fresh take on the Greek gods walking among us and seeming so humanlike but with an edge! Who doesn't want to hang out with Apollo!?
Emily Whitney I'm "patiently" waiting for a few books to be released that I want to read: Elektra by Jennifer Saint (Released May 3, 2022), The Retreat by Sarah Pearse (Released July 19, 2022), and Blood of Troy by Claire Andrews (Released September 6, 2022). While I wait, I will get to The Lost Apothecary by Sarah Penner, and the Grecian Women Series by Hannah Lynn (Athena's Child, A Spartans Sorrow, and Queens of Themiscyra)!
