Nathan Senthil I wrote the plot first. Since The Immoralist is partially a police procedural, I gave a lot of importance to the solving of the crime. As Mr. Bunny, the antagonist, works almost two decades to make himself very knowledgeable in forensics, I had to create an ending that is logical but never been tried before. Gabriel uses a really cool form of deduction to catch Mr. Bunny and that took a lot of time to conceive.
Nathan Senthil Um...I never got it.
Nathan Senthil You don't fail as long as you don't give up, fare and square. I was rejected 100 times but then four different traditional publishers offered me contracts. It's a hard industry to break into, but the rewards are great when you do.
Nathan Senthil I read a story that parents sell their kids into slavery, to have them maimed and make them beg. Poverty makes people do unspeakable things. So that's where I got my latest idea.
