Art Chester Writing fiction is an incredibly satisfying activity, and for me writing mysteries is especially enjoyable. You can invent an entire world to suit yourself, yet at the same time you must entertain your reader with a good story that rings true. Creativity is more fun when there are rules and constraints - it's not aimless, but becomes an adventurous exploration. I put additional boundaries on my own books: the science must be true, and the personalities must be genuine. I just hope the models for my characters don't recognize themselves!
Art Chester I get inspiration from the crazy-but-logical personalities of scientists, the wonders of technology and the unique scenes of the Los Angeles and Malibu, California areas. With such great material available and no one else telling the story, I just have to write!
Art Chester I am writing the sequel to Death By Tech, which will be #3 in the Evan Olsson mystery / techno-thriller series. The principal characters - Evan, Matt and their colleagues - continue to evolve as they face yet a new mystery, involving new threats, criminals and technology. The draft is about 80% complete and I hope to publish in Fall 2015.
Art Chester What could a determined group of criminals do with a high power laser in Los Angeles? This "what if" drives Death By Tech, which weaves together three sub-cultures of L.A.: the sometimes-crazy art community, vibrant Chinatown, and the "urban explorers" who infiltrate the tunnels which criss-cross beneath the city. The plot almost wrote itself, because each of these groups plays a key part in the mystery and its solution.
