I write in three worlds:
- Fiction as Art Chester and my pen name Urno Barthel. My short stories and mysteries explore life in the research lab -- the personalities, the romances, the secrets inside the “ivory tower” where new technology is created.
- Science for Nonscientists as Art Chester on my website https://artchester.net. I look at the facts behind science headlines, and I also speculate about what the work means, where it will lead us.

You can invent an entire world to suit yourself, yet at the same time you must entertain your reader with a good story that rings true. Creativity is more fun when there are rules and constraints - it's not aimless, but becomes an adventurous exploration. I put additional boundaries on my own books: the science must be true, and the personalities must be genuine. I just hope the models for my characters don't recognize themselves!(less)
