I have yet to read the wildly popular SF book "The Three Body Problem" by Cixin Liu. It's about time to read it.
I just discovered the supernatural historical thriller book "The Hunger" by Alma Katsu. The story is based on the tragedy of Donner Party migrants in the 1840s. The premise sounds interesting.

The Devil and its Apprentice:
"Who's behind this door?" the young apprentice asked. "You said we are doing a one-on-one interview with this new arrival. You *never* do this yourself."
The devil smiled. I have been called to do this interview because this room is reserved for the most impactful actors that humans ever created. He was responsible for the destruction of democracy in the US that once graced the popular country on Earth."

I bought an antique sewing machine from a local Goodwill. A hobo spider came crawling out after I hauled the antique into our living room...

Because my inner voice won't shut up. If I don't write my ideas down, I would explode. I came close to it many times last decade, so I finally complied and wrote this book, thinking it would go away. And now it is nagging me again!

You know that old saying, "The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step." Yes, you get the picture.
I also love this quote from the late Steve Jobs: "Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma - which is living with the results of other people's thinking. Don't let the noise of others' opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition."

For the horror movie, I would love to be the cat, 'Jones', onboard the movie "Alien." This way, I could listen in on all the characters' conversations. And if I feel righteous enough, I would try to kill Ash while he was asleep.
For the Sci-fi movie, I would love to be at the Starwar's cantina, having a drink with Solo and listen to all of his galactic stories--before the shooting starts.
For comedy, I would love to live in the world of "Monthy Python and the Holy Grail." And I definitely would want to be the Killer Rabbit. "And do what?" you asked. Killing, of course.
For action, I would want to live in Ian Fleming's world and be the first villain to *finally* kill off James Bond.

Becoming a 'published' writer has always been on my bucket list. But this is not a fleeting interest for me to simply check off and move on. Writing satisfies my soul and gives me an outlet to balance my life.
The best thing is to share your ideas and characters that have been living in your head with the world. As a first time author, the greatest feeling is to see your work appreciated and acknowledged by the readers like you.

I use several ways to unblock myself, and it depends on how I feel that day. One effective way is to 'talk' about the story with a friend. Your discussion with your trusted friend will often offer you the necessary energy and ideas to push you forward. It's also a good idea to write your story backward in draft form, so you make the course correction needed. Solving the writer's block doesn't always mean looking for inspiration; you could also move forward mechanically by fixing things that's already written down.
