As a children's book author, I love to see their little faces when I tell them I wrote the book they like. It's very rewarding to see a physical copy of the book you wrote.

Don't be afraid to try to get your book published. You don't have to wait until a publisher finds out you're good. Believe in what you wrote. You are your very first reader. If you don't like what you wrote, just rewrite it. Somebody will eventually buy your first book.

Although I have other books in the works, I am currently working on promoting "The Careless Kitty", which was also released in Spanish and Portuguese. ( "Gato Ingrato" and "O Gato Ingrato").

It's may sound clichè, but anything can inspire me. As a children's book author, I use a lot of my own experience as a child and as a young reader to write my books. Also, I listen to a lot of stories from parents and children around me.

"The Careless Kitty" is based on real events. It's a tribute book to my family's pet cat Calvin, which in the book is named "Rascal".
My wife and I were cleaning the house one day and, all of a sudden, there this rat crawling on the curtain. It was when we decided we should adopt a cat so we could get rid of mice around the house. A few months later, he went out for a walk and was gone for a day. My wife was 5 months pregnant at the time and you can imagine. To know the rest of the story, you have to read the book! lol
